Dish of the Day: “Inti Raymi” for Peru’s Festival of Sun

About the festival

The Festival Of Sun or Inti Raymi is one of the most exciting festivals of Peru that is celebrated in the city of Cuzco on 24th of June every year. It is observed in honour of Sun God, who is considered as supreme power to bestow the people on earth with his power and illumination. Sun is considered as son of Ynca Manco Ccapac.


It’s truly a food gusto for people. Of many toothsome food items, we bring to you the recipe of Peruvian Chicha Morada Drink.

This purplish, sweet and icy drink made from the purple corns is considered as traditional drink of Peru, South America. Its refreshing flavor and the tangy taste definitely holds electrifying effect whether the drink is served on Inti Raymi or the coming party bash.



1 gallon water

15 ounce dried purple corn

2 cinnamon sticks

1 tablespoon whole cloves

5 large juiced lemons

1 1/2 cups brown sugar

1/2 cup fresh chopped pineapple

1/2 chopped apple


Boil corn, cloves and cinnamon stick in the specified quantity of water. Then simmer for 45 minutes. Remove from heat. Use mesh strainer to strain corn and spices.

Add sugar and lemon juice. Keep stirring until sugar dissolves completely. Keep your drink in the refrigerator. Stir in chopped apples and pineapples. Add Ice cubes just before serving. Served chilled!!!!!
